What You'll Be Doing:
We're seeking a Senior Embedded Linux Application Engineer to join a nearshore engineering team in Costa Rica supporting a new product introduction for a global leader in test and measurement: an ultra-low pressure primary calibration standard. You'll own the architecture of the system software that runs the instrument on a headless NXP i.MX95-class embedded Linux computer, built on the client's in-house Yocto-based platform, replacing legacy Windows desktop applications. You'll work with significant independence, with support from the client's ESW Product Owner and platform engineers.
Core Responsibilities:
Requirements and Skills:
● 7+ years of embedded Linux software experience after a BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; senior level, able to own an application architecture.
● C++ application development for embedded Linux: services, IPC, and systemd.
● Yocto Linux: product layers, recipes, and BitBake builds, including building on an existing in-house Yocto platform rather than only vendor BSPs.
● Web user interface development (HTML, CSS, TypeScript) with a modern framework such as React.
● HTTP/REST API design and implementation.
● Secure application practices: authentication, role-based permissions, audit logging, signed software updates, TLS/mutual TLS (OpenSSL), privilege separation, and service sandboxing.
● English (proficiency in speaking and writing).
Preferred Qualifications
● Migrating legacy desktop application functionality to an embedded target.
● SWUpdate, dm-verity, and secure boot on NXP i.MX processors.
● Instrument communication over RS-232, GPIB, or SCPI.
● Secure coding (CERT C++), fuzzing, and familiarity with IEC 62443-4-1.
● Experience in test and measurement or calibration software.
● Use of AI-assisted development tools within client policies.
Why Join Us?
At Fresh, we empower our team to excel by offering:
● Leadership driven by integrity and values.
● Competitive salary.
● Training and development opportunities.
● Collaborative work environment with a focus on growth.
● Medical Plan
● English Lessons
● Relaxed and friendly work environment
● Schedule flexibility with results oriented philosophy
Equal Employment Opportunity:
We are committed to diversity and inclusion. All qualified individuals will be considered for employment regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other status protected by law. We provide assistance upon request for applicants with disabilities.

Core Responsibilities:
- Set up the product project on the client's Yocto-based embedded Linux platform: product layer, image recipes, and machine files and device tree for the SoM evaluation kit and custom carrier board.
- Integrate platform services (A/B software update, configuration, storage, diagnostics, identity/security) and enable verified (secure) boot.
- Develop the C++ system software as separate Linux services (systemd, IPC): test sequences, instrument control, data logging, results, and reports, feature-porting functionality from legacy VB6 desktop applications.
- Build a self-hosted web user interface (HTML, CSS, TypeScript, React or similar) and REST APIs, used on a local monitor in kiosk mode and from networked PCs.
- Implement communication with system instruments and customer devices over RS-232 and GPIB through USB adapters, including concurrent multi-device sessions.
- Implement security requirements from the product threat analysis: user accounts and roles, audit logging, HTTPS and mutual TLS, signed updates, service sandboxing, encrypted data, and security tests and fuzzing in CI.
- Implement the remote programming interface used by the client's calibration software.
