And we do so as a workforce representative of the communities we serve, understanding that a diverse workforce strengthens our organization. We value diversity and support a positive and welcoming environment where all of our employees can thrive.
What are we looking for?
We seek an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and grow Fresh's electrical engineering team, owning the discipline's people, technical standards, and delivery. You will bring deep experience launching consumer electronics, along with the technical judgment to guide system-level power distribution and chassis wiring on larger builds.
In this role, you will lead the development of electrical engineers, establish technical standards, and oversee engineering quality across client programs. You will review designs, set system architecture, and provide technical guidance to the engineers leading individual projects.
This is a full-time, exempt position based in Bellevue, WA, working in person with our engineering team, electronics lab, and Issaquah prototype shop. Reporting to the Managing Director of Hardware, the role is approximately 50% client leadership and 50% team leadership.
What will you be doing?
An Electrical Engineering Manager at Fresh plays a critical role in developing engineering talent, strengthening technical capabilities, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex hardware products. You will lead a team working across diverse client programs, ranging from consumer electronics and connected devices to robotics, automation, RF and FPGA-based sensing, and Physical AI systems.
Your primary responsibility is building and supporting a high-performing electrical engineering team. You will oversee hiring, professional development, performance management, and staffing while cultivating senior engineers into capable project leads. You will also establish and maintain electrical engineering design standards and product development processes that support consistent technical quality across programs.
On client projects, you will provide technical oversight rather than serving as the primary individual contributor. This includes guiding system architecture, reviewing schematic and PCB designs, supporting engineering decisions, and helping project leads navigate development from concept through production. You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, embedded software, test automation, industrial design, and program management teams to deliver integrated products on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, hire, coach, and develop the electrical engineering team, supporting engineers at all experience levels, from new engineers to senior technical leads.
- Own team staffing, performance reviews, career development, and professional growth, including developing senior engineers into effective project leads.
- Identify technical skill gaps and develop strategies to strengthen team capabilities through training, hiring, internal development, or contractor support.
- Support the growth and integration of engineering resources in Fresh's Mexico office as that team expands.
Technical Leadership and Engineering Standards:
- Establish and maintain electrical engineering design standards, technical best practices, and product development processes across client programs.
- Guide system-level electrical architecture during program kickoff and provide technical direction throughout product development.
- Lead schematic and PCB layout reviews, ensuring designs meet technical requirements, quality expectations, and manufacturability objectives.
- Provide technical consultation on complex engineering trade-offs, helping project teams evaluate design decisions and resolve challenges.
- Guide system-level power distribution, grounding, cable harnessing, and chassis wiring decisions on larger builds, including automation cells, robotics systems, and computer systems.
- Partner with mechanical engineering teams to ensure effective integration of electrical systems into complex hardware products.
Project Delivery and Product Development:
- Mentor and guide electrical engineering project leads through architecture, design, bring-up, Engineering Validation Testing (EVT), Design Validation Testing (DVT), and Production Validation Testing (PVT).
- Provide technical oversight for programs involving contract manufacturers and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), supporting successful transitions into mass production.
- Ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), component sourcing, and regulatory compliance considerations are addressed throughout product development.
- Guide teams through FCC, UL, and CE certification requirements, including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing.
- Collaborate with project leads and program managers to maintain technical quality, resolve engineering challenges, and support on-time, on-budget delivery.
Client Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Support business development by scoping and estimating electrical engineering work for client proposals and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Participate in client presentations and technical discussions, communicating engineering approaches, project scope, and technical trade-offs.
- Identify opportunities for additional client engagements and follow-on engineering work within existing programs.
- Partner closely with mechanical engineering, embedded software, test automation, industrial design, and program management leads to deliver integrated hardware and software products.
- Provide technical leadership and client-facing guidance to ensure project objectives, schedules, and budgets remain aligned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in product development, with demonstrated expertise in reviewing designs and defining electrical system architectures.
- 2+ years of direct management experience leading electrical engineers, including hiring, performance reviews, professional development, and mentoring engineers into project leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience guiding at least two products from concept through EVT, DVT, and PVT into mass production with contract manufacturers or ODMs.
- Broad board-level engineering expertise encompassing analog and mixed-signal circuits, AC/DC and DC/DC power systems, and high-speed digital interfaces.
- Working proficiency with Altium Designer or a comparable ECAD tool for schematic and PCB layout reviews.
- Experience guiding products through FCC, UL, and CE certification processes, including EMC testing.
- Working knowledge of system-level power distribution, grounding, cable harnesses, and chassis wiring.
- Strong technical leadership skills, with the ability to review engineering work, establish architectural direction, and guide teams through complex design decisions.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience, including scoping and estimating engineering work, communicating technical trade-offs, and supporting project delivery.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and deliver complex product development programs on schedule and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a product development consultancy across multiple clients, industries, and engineering programs.
- Experience developing and scaling high-volume production products.
- Experience designing compact consumer electronics, including High-Density Interconnect (HDI), flexible, and rigid-flex PCBs.
- Experience with medical device development under IEC 60601-1, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971 standards.
- Experience integrating wireless technologies, including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, cellular, and GNSS, along with carrier or PTCRB certification.
- Experience integrating FPGA, RF, or edge AI compute modules into custom board designs.
- Familiarity with industrial controls and electrical panel wiring standards, including UL 508A and NFPA 79.
For a Washington-State-based role, the base salary hiring range for this position is $165,000 to $190,000. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
